REFLECTION
OF TOMORROW

Art in a Post-Digital World

OPENING 11 November 2024 - 4PM CET

11 November - 20 November 2024

What surrounds us is determined by an uninterrupted flow of bytes, digital impulses, artificial heartbeats. The hand of the web has enchanted us with the promise of a new Enlightenment, which breaks down barriers and creates solutions unthinkable for human limitations. But it has also appropriated a spark of creativity. And even art, which by its very definition challenges the rules of conventionality and gives life to the tremors of an indomitable heart, has been swallowed up by an illusion transmitted in binary codes. If we observe this scenario, we wonder what will remain of the ardour that animates the artist's brush and the wonder that lights up the gaze of the observer. The vortex of technology is appropriating every segment of reality, even the most hidden ones, the most peculiar traits of the mind. We are enclosed in a modern Platonic Cave, in which admiring a blank screen has become the perfect surrogate for a full and satisfying existence. How can we, then, awaken from our torpor? The answer is suggested to us by the innate aspiration to seek the extraordinary, and the wonder that so often is not synonymous with perfection, but with something genuine. The scope of the virtual – so inescapable – thus becomes a tool, and not a substitute for a natural inspiring flame, so that inventiveness never abdicates its throne. Embracing the supreme force of art means this: it means dismantling pre-existing structures and appreciating the spontaneity of an imperfect gesture in its most authentic dimension.
